Following HT’s report highlighting the effort girls are putting into playing football, the Thane-based Aniket Foundation decided to sponsor shirts for the School No. 103 football team in Airoli.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has formed 10 women’s football teams from their civic schools. Girls from very poor economic backgrounds would devote long hours to studies while playing football and supporting their families by doing part-time jobs.

“Following the article in HT last week, we were approached by the foundation asking for ways to support the girls. They decided to reach out. As the girls are preparing for a tournament, we have been looking to new shirts and they were provided to us,” said sports teacher Pradip Mastud.

“We help economically weaker students, especially those who faint in municipal schools. Since the report mentioned the struggles the girls were enduring for their education as well as playing sports, we wanted to do our part,” said trust founder Sunita Ambhore.
