Brighton vs Brentford live stream: Premier League score & latest updates

Hhello and welcome to Telegraph Sport’s Live coverage of the Premier League’s last Boxing Day game as Brighton host out of form Brentford at the Amex.

Brighton boss Graham Potter is hopeful that the return of Danny Welbeck after a three-month absence will catalyze a turnaround in results after the club’s 11-game winless Premier League game.

Welbeck scored the game-winning goal as Brighton took the Champions League places with a 2-1 victory over Leicester on September 19, but then suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace eight days later .

It required surgery and while Welbeck was recovering, the Seagulls sit 13th at Christmas even though they have lost just three times since their last top-flight win over the Foxes three months ago.

Potter is delighted to be able to use the former Manchester United, Arsenal and England striker again.

“Danny played against Leicester and then got injured against Crystal Palace,” Potter said. “It coincided with the games we didn’t win.

“Sometimes you need a player who can make a difference and Danny Welbeck is a player who can make a difference – it is that simple.

“He’s one of our best players, he has a fantastic experience and I think it’s common knowledge that if Danny Welbeck is fit and loves his football, he’s a huge asset to us.”

Welbeck was initially troubled by the problem in Brighton’s last home game last season against Manchester City and a pre-season setback led him to miss the start of the campaign before collapsing once in more against Palace.

Welbeck has now undergone surgery on both hamstrings, but Potter is confident the injury won’t be a lingering concern on the 31-year-old’s return trail.
