In preparation for this weekend’s Divisional Round matchups, the NFL issued a statement to the eight remaining postseason teams regarding the updated cadence for COVID-19 testing.

Friday’s memo, obtained by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, informed clubs that neither vaccinated nor unvaccinated players will be subject to daily testing going forward.

According to Pelissero, the NFLPA-approved change was made based on information gathered over the past month on the Omicron variant. NFL and NFLPA medical experts have seen a decrease in positive cases over this period, an encouraging sign for the league as a whole following decisions to implement targeted testing and revise the window for players are returning from COVID protocol late last year.

All players and multi-tier staff will now be subject to enhanced symptom screening, symptom-based testing and targeted surveillance testing, by Pelissero.

Pelissero also noted that people on a 90-day testing “vacation” after having had COVID are still subject to testing if they have symptoms, regardless of their vaccination status. So, although positive tests are close to zero at the moment, it is still possible for a player to miss a playoff game if they are sick.

Of all the unvaccinated players still on playoff teams, only about a dozen haven’t yet contracted COVID, Pelissero reported, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The NFL hosted a “Monday Night Football” game a few days ago to close out the wildcard round of the 2022 NFL Playoffs. Although this is a new wrinkle in the playoff schedule, the NFL will not add “Thursday Night Football” match schedule.

The NFL’s “TNF” schedule typically ends a few weeks before the end of the regular season, as the league wants to give teams enough time to rest and prepare for their next opponent. As such, it seems highly unlikely that the league will add a Thursday playoff game to the mix, especially since there are only four games left to play.

Divisional round games will take place on Saturday and Sunday, making this the second week so far where NFL football has only taken place two days a week. The other came in week 18.

Here’s everything you need to know about “TNF” for the 2022 playoffs and what you can watch with the finished schedule for the season.

Is there a Thursday night football game?

No, there is no “Thursday Night Football” match on Thursday January 20. “Thursday Night Football” has ended for this season and will not return until the start of the 2022 NFL regular season.

The first Thursday game of the NFL season is usually the season opener. That said, this has usually aired on NBC in the past, so it’s technically a “Sunday Night Football” game. As such, “TNF” will not be officially return until week two of the regular season, although NFL viewers will be treated to a Thursday night game during week one of the 2022 NFL season.

The final “TNF” game of the season aired Dec. 23, when the Titans beat the 49ers 20-17 in a back-and-forth. The NFL does not schedule Thursday games during the playoffs so teams can have enough time to rest, recover and prepare for their next opponent.

The NFL held a “Monday Night Football” game for the first time in the 2022 NFL Playoffs. The Rams crushed the Cardinals 34-11 in that game and will now face the Buccaneers on Sunday. It will be interesting to see if having one less rest day proves important in this game.

IYER: Kyler Murray’s awkward playoff debut should inspire Cardinals to change

the Spanish National American Football League, LNFA, kicked off the 2022 season with eight of the 10 teams in action.

The defending champion Badalona Dracs were on the road to face Pioneers of L’Hospitalet while Osos Rivas from Madrid hosted the Sailors of Gijon. the Zaragoza hurricanes were also the home team when they faced the Mallorca Thieves and the Murcian Cobras visited on Black Demons of Las Rozas in their first round match.

Badalona Dracs 48 – L’Hospitalet Pioneers 3

The Badalona Dracs looked like every defending champion in Spain as they toppled newly promoted L’Hospitalet Pioners 48-3 on Saturday in the opening day of the Spanish American Football League 2022 season.

The Dracs took a 35-3 halftime lead before falling back in the second half. Quarterback Glen Cuiellette threw six touchdown passes, three to Hunter Belzo, two to tight end Raul Cernuda and one to young David Martinez. For the Pioners, kicker Juame Llinas accounted for their entire score, scoring a field goal to open the game.

L’Hospitalet opened the scoring with a field goal from Jaume Llinas, but then it was all Dracs as Cuiellette found Belzo for the game’s first touchdown. Although Llinas gave his team great field position with a great kickoff return, the Badalona linebacker forced the game’s first fumble, hitting Pioners quarterback Murcock Rutledge who coughed the ball up. and Cuiellette capitalized immediately, hitting Cernuda to increase the lead to 14-3, still in the first quarter.

Kenney then landed the first interception of the game, turning it into a six pick and the Dracs were ahead 21-3 at the end of the period.

The onslaught continued in the second quarter with Cuiellette connecting with Martinez and then Belzo to make it 35-3 before the break.

The second half saw Belzo and then Cernuda add touchdown receptions, the latter after Rutledge was picked again, this time by Eudald Sabater.

Osos Rivas 34 – Gijon Mariners 17

Madrid’s Osos Rivas entered the final quarter of their game against the Gijon Mariners trailing 17-13 but then scored four unanswered touchdowns to pull away and beat the Mariners 34-17 to claim their first victory of the young Spanish season.

Osos quarterback Sergio Barbero threw touchdown passes to Alejandro Tizón and Atsushi Uehiro while Adrián Jiménez and David Giron scored rushing touchdowns and Jorge Ruiz scored on a pick six.

Still, the Mariners didn’t make it any easier as they took a 10-0 lead on a field goal by Raúl García and a touchdown by Mexico quarterback Daniel de Juambelz. Osos recovered from the shock of suddenly trailing the underdog Mariners as Giron and then Tizon scored to take a 13-10 lead into the break. Gijon came back into the lead early in the third quarter as Juambelz found Ibai Mejuto to give the Mariners a 17-13 third quarter lead.

Unfazed, Osos came right back with Uehiro with his first touchdown of the season to make it 20-17. Then Jimenez caught a game-tying pass off an interception from Ruiz and Ruiz, who was on fire in the secondary, took out Juambelz a second time, carrying him home to finish the scoring.

Hurricanes of Zaragoza 41 – Voltors of Mallorca 35

Zaragoza Hurricanes WR Kyle Mucerino scored 2 touchdowns Photo: Vicente Cabello

The Zaragoza Hurricanes and Mallorca Voltors gave the spectators a wild offensive display on Sunday, with the Hurricanes managing to score a last-minute touchdown to break a 35-35 tie and defeat Mallorca 41-35.

Hurricanes quarterback Kevin Doyle threw five touchdown passes and ran for another with Aaron David and Kyle Mucerino catching two each and Luis Sánchez firing another.

For Mallorca, quarterback Diego Lliteras threw three touchdown passes, one to Marcos Molina, Javier Alberola and running back Ronaldo Tomasello and Tomasello added two more on the ground.

After a tentative, scoreless first quarter, both teams exploded for five touchdowns in the second quarter, with the Voltors taking a 14-0 lead on two touchdowns from Tomasello, the first on the ground and the second on a 60-yard pass from Literas. Doyle and the Hurricanes offense responded as the quarterback found the end zone himself to cut the lead to 14-7. Lliteras connected with Molina to extend Mallorca’s lead to 21-7 but Doyle hit a streaky David to close the gap to 21-14 just before half-time.

Zaragoza leveled the score at 21-21 to open the second half as Doyle found Mucerino for his first touchdown but Lliteras responded on Mallorca’s next possession, throwing to Alberola to restore the lead, 28-21 to end the third quarter.

The wild fourth quarter saw Doyle connect with Sanchez to level the game at 28-28, but Tomasello put his team back in front by finding a hole in the middle and scampering into the end zone to make it 35- 28. Again Doyle responded, finding David for his second touchdown of the day to tie again, 35-35 leading to late game drama. On Zaragoza’s last possession, Doyle returned to Mucerino to put the game away.

Murcia Cobras 17 – LG OLED Las Rozas Black Demons 13

Murcia Cobras relied on a tough defensive position late in the fourth quarter to thwart a late drive from Las Rozas Black Demons and come away with a 17-13 win in the season opener for both teams in Spain.

Cobras quarterback Robert Cuda threw a run for a touchdown and defensive back Alpha Jalloh, a late signing from Murcia, scored another on a six pick while Irish kicker Conor Tait added a basket late to explain the score.

For the Black Demons, quarterback David de Diego threw two touchdown passes, one to Alejandro García and the other to Jesús Pérez.

Cuda opened the scoring in the first quarter, sneaking into the end zone to give Murcia a 7-0 lead. The Black Demons responded as de Diego connected with Garcia, but the extra point attempt fell through and the Cobras stayed ahead, 7-6. On Las Rozas’ next possession, Jalloh caught an errant pass from Diego and returned it all the way for a touchdown, extending the lead to 14-6. Again the Black Demons responded, this time as Perez netted an assist from Diego to cut the lead to 14-13 at the break.

Neither team was able to find the end zone in the third quarter and the fourth also looked like a defensive stalemate until Tait scored the game-winning field goal with less than a minute on the clock. Las Rozas couldn’t respond and the Cobras walked away with a key win early in the season.

The action resumes in Spain this weekend with four games on the schedule.

NFL Wild Card pick for 49ers vs. Cowboys

Before you tune in to Sunday’s Cowboys vs 49ers game, you need to see the NFL picks from SportsLine’s advanced computer model. The model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, has grown more than $7,400 for players to $100 on top NFL picks since its inception more than six years ago. The model enters the 2021 NFL playoffs on an incredible 136-97 run on NFL top picks that dates back to the 2017 season.

The model has also ranked in the top 10 on NFLPickWatch four of the last five years on NFL direct picks and has beaten more than 94% of CBS Sports Football Pick’em players four times during that time. Anyone who followed him is upstairs.

For 49ers vs. Cowboys, the model backs San Francisco to cover the road spread. San Francisco blitzed to the fourth-lowest rate in the NFL and had a relatively low rushing rate of 24.1%, but tied for the fifth-most sacks this season at 48. When Prescott had a clean pocket, he’s thrown nine of his 10 interceptions this year.

Last weekend, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford started hot against the Niners but finished with just 238 passing yards and two interceptions outside of his three touchdown passes. One of those interceptions sealed San Francisco’s overtime victory, when Ambry Thomas went down with a through pass aimed at Odell Beckham Jr. San Francisco also sacked Stafford five times without having to include additional passers during the majority Match.

SportsLine’s model predicts that Prescott will still push for 270 passing yards and two touchdowns, but will need nearly 40 passes to get there. The volume of the Cowboys’ passing game may be enough to carry them to a win, but San Francisco is expected to stay within the three-point margin in about half of all simulations.

Georgia linebacker Nakobe Dean has declared himself for the 2022 NFL Draft after a stellar three-year career with the Bulldogs. Dean, the 2021 Butkus Award winner and the top linebacker prospect projected in the draft, made his announcement Friday on his Instagram page.

“I would first like to thank God, for blessing me to be able to be in this position,” wrote Dean. “If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here today. The past three years at the University of Georgia have been nothing short of amazing and I will never forget the unwavering support I received from the most big fans of college football.”

Dean was a key catalyst for one of college football’s greatest defenses in recent memory. The Lake Horn, Mississippi native had 72 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, 28 rushing quarterbacks, six pass breakups and two interceptions in a monstrous final season. He posted four tackles and three quarterbacks in the Bulldogs’ College Football Playoff National Championship win over Alabama.

The famous defender joins a wave of Georgia players who have announced themselves for the draft over the past few days, including running backs Zamir White and James Cook, defensive end Travon Walker, receiver George Pickens and cornerback Lewis Cinema. The player announcement deadline for the 2022 NFL Draft is Monday, January 17.

Historical career

Dean became just the second Georgia linebacker to win the Butkus Award, joining Bears All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith. While Georgia has recruited the linebacker position exceptionally well under coach Kirby Smart, the Bulldogs have their work cut out to replace Dean’s 168 career tackles and 13.5 tackles for loss.

Behind Dean, Georgia listed true freshman and former five-star rookie Smael Mondon Jr. as the next in line at middle linebacker. The Dallas, Georgia native has played in all 15 games in 2021 and has 12 tackles. The Bulldogs are also expected to lose Quay Walker, Channing Tindall and Robert Beal at linebacker, making the positional group one of the biggest questions on defense ahead of next season’s UGA title defense. Fortunately, the absurd defensive front seven has always been Georgia’s specialty.

Draft

Dean entered college as a consensus five-star freshman and No. 2 inside linebacker in his class. He leaves as a No. 1 linebacker prospect and candidate to enter the top 10.

CBS Sports’ NFL Draft Prospects Ranking lists Dean as the No. 11 player on the board and the No. 1 linebacker prospect. CBS Sports NFL draft analyst Chris Trapasso pitches Dean to the Denver Broncos with the No. 9 pick in his latest mock draft, describing him as a “brain lightning bolt on the pitch”.

Listed at 6-foot, 225 pounds, Dean has the explosiveness both vertically and laterally to be an instant contributor in any NFL role or system.

RENTON, Wash .– After a discussion with Pete Carroll, Adrian Peterson began to consider a coaching career after the game. For now, however, the 36-year-old running back plans to continue his Hall of Fame career in 2022.

Peterson finished his 15th NFL season on the injured list with the Seattle Seahawks, who ended their season 7-10 with a victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Peterson joined their training team in early December and played in one game before injuring his back.

Peterson, who will be a free agent, said Monday he had not spoken to team officials about returning to the Seahawks but wanted to keep playing.

“I just can’t imagine my career ending the way it did,” he said. “So with that I start the offseason with the mindset to keep playing. I still have love for the game. I feel like I can still compete at a high level and with an offseason. to my credit, with the state of mind – – because I’m stronger than I was last year, mentally – with the state of mind with which I would enter this offseason, I feel like I’ll be able to do amazing things, get healthy and fight this offseason with a different mindset. So starting today, I’m really looking forward to playing again. “

The Seahawks were all but eliminated from the playoffs when they signed Peterson, but believed he could have a positive impact on their young players. This has been especially true with fourth-year running back Rashaad Penny, whose late-season explosion coincided with the arrival of Peterson.

Penny, who has led the NFL with 671 rushing yards in the last five games and scored six touchdowns in that span, has continually cited how much he has benefited from watching Peterson and soaking up his wisdom.

“I feel like Penny is one of the most important people I have ever touched,” said Peterson. “He didn’t hesitate. He didn’t hesitate to ask questions and try to pick my brain. ‘Hey, what are you doing?’ Not only did he just ask, but he also acted on it. He did things throughout the week to help his body recover, to keep his body in shape. “

Carroll saw the same thing. That’s part of the reason he recently raised with Peterson the possibility of a possible move into training.

Before that, he had never considered coaching anything other than maybe his son’s little league team.

“But after talking to Coach Pete, that’s something I kind of thought about,” said Peterson. “I also talked to my wife and she said, ‘Adrian, you’re just a different person when you’re in football and it shows. So that’s something you should really think about and consider. ‘ So, for the first time, I really thought about it and considered going in that direction if and when I was done playing football. So we’ll see where the chips fall. “

In his only game with the Seahawks, Peterson scored a touchdown to tie Jim Brown for 10th on the NFL’s all-time TD roster.

“The experience has been second to none,” he said of his time in Seattle. “I have been fortunate enough to play with a lot of different organizations and I can say that this is definitely, probably the best experience I have had.”

Peterson ranks fifth in NFL history with 14,918 career rushing yards.

The Buccaneers (12-4) have gone from an NFC wildcard squad to NFC South winners in their quest to repeat as Super Bowl champions. But they can still improve their position a bit in the 2021-2022 NFL Playoffs.

Tampa Bay is there with No. 1 seeded Green Bay, a tough team to beat in the NFC tournament. Here is the range of Buccaneers seeding results at the end of week 18:

WEEK 18 CHOICE: Against the spread | Directly

How high can Buccaneers be seeded in the NFC?

The Buccaneers are currently ranked third behind the Packers and second Rams.

They will do their best to move up to number 2, so they can play two home games in the NFC tournament after not playing any of them as wild cards in last year’s playoffs – until ‘welcoming’ the. Super Bowl 55 against the Chiefs. That’s important because the Buccaneers have lost just one game at Raymond James Stadium this season, against the Saints in Week 15.

To get seed # 2, it’s simple. The Buccaneers are set to beat or tie the Panthers at home on Sunday while the Rams lose to the 49ers at the same time. The Bucs must have a better record than the Rams as they lost to them in Los Angeles in Week 3.

The Buccaneers don’t need to do much to hold onto the No.3. A win over the Panthers would at least guarantee that no matter what the Rams do. They could also lose to the Panthers and retain the No.3 with a Cowboys victory. That’s because the Bucs have the head-to-head tiebreaker (Week 1 win) against the Cowboys, who can only tie the Bucs at 12-5.

There is only one scenario where the Buccaneers can fall to No.4 with a loss. If the Rams also lose like the Panthers but are expected to win NFC West via a loss to the Cardinals, plus the Cowboys win to tie it three at 12-5, the Bucs would have the teams’ worst conference record at 7-5. That would move the Cowboys (10-2 in the NFC game) to No.2 and the Rams (8-4) slip to No.3.

If the Buccaneers lost to the Panthers, the Rams lost to the 49ers and the Cardinals would win the NFC West by beating the Seahawks, the Cardinals would be No.2, the Buccaneers No.3 and the Cowboys No.4. Dallas would fall there. because of the loss to Arizona and Tampa Bay. The Rams would then fall to the top of the Jokers at No.5.

Number 3 is the most likely outcome for the Buccaneers, but Number 2 is very much on the line as the 49ers (9-7) will give the Rams a tough game as they battle for a wild card spot. .

He is baaaaaack! The unknown long snapper of the Ohio State football team, Bradley Robinson, returns for another season with the Buckeyes.

The Troy, Mich. Native is able to take advantage of a rare seventh year of eligibility and will use it to better prepare for the NFL. Robinson will also use this time to complete his master’s degree and take steps to earn a doctorate. He already has a degree in human nutrition and another in human development and family sciences. He received the Rose Bowl Scholar-Athlete Award last week.

As I mentioned in an article titled Unknown All-American from OSU earlier this week, it is well known that the Buckeyes had many named players to various All-America teams, but the news of the honor of Robinson went unnoticed. Although the various departments that nominate All-America teams do not include long snappers, he was named fourth team by Rubio Long Snap. They are considered the primary authority on long snaps in all of football.

Unless there’s a bad snap, you don’t hear much about long snappers. This is why Robinson is not a household name among Buckeye fans, he is so good. Years from now, Noah Ruggles will be remembered for his Rose Bowl-winning kick.

Some might remember that Jesse Mirco was the incumbent, but I doubt Robinson’s name comes to mind more than a few fans. He was so good and consistent that you never had to hear his name. Bringing him back for another season is great news.

The hope for Robinson in 2022 is that he will continue to provide the Buckeyes with crisp shots, impressive enough to become an All-American first team and follow in the footsteps of other long OSU snappers who have made a roster of the NFL. If he can do all of this, I probably won’t have to call him the Unknown All-American.

Ross Browner, a double All-American at Notre Dame and one of four brothers who played in the NFL, has died. He was 67 years old.

Browner’s son, former NFL offensive lineman Max Starks, posted on Twitter early Wednesday morning that his father had passed away.

“The world has lost a Titan,” Starks said. “Our hearts are heavy but he is at peace now.”

Hailing from Warren, Ohio, Browner was part of a family of accomplished footballers. The defensive end was the oldest of six brothers who were high school football stars in Ohio. Three others – Jimmie Browner, Keith Browner and Joey Browner – followed Ross into the NFL.

Starks played the offensive line in the NFL for a decade, winning the Super Bowl twice with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Ross Browner’s youngest son Rylan played college football in Arizona.

Ross Browner was a starter at Notre Dame for four years, helping the Fighting Irish to national titles in 1973 and 1977 under coach Ara Parseghian.

Browner was an All-American in 1976 as a junior, winning the Outland Trophy as the nation’s top lineman.

As a senior in 1977, Browner was again an All-American. He won the Maxwell Award for the country’s best player, Lombardi, which goes to the country’s best lineman, and was fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Browner still holds the school records for career tackles by a defensive lineman at 340 and career tackles for loss at 77.

The Cincinnati Bengals selected Browner eighth overall in the 1978 NFL Draft, and he immediately became a starter on their defensive line.

Former Cincinnati wide receiver Isaac Curtis told Bengals.com he fondly remembers Browner’s big laugh.

“You could hear him everywhere. He brought sunshine into the locker room. He just had that energy that was contagious,” Curtis said.

Browner was part of the first Bengals team to reach the Super Bowl in 1981. He recorded 10 tackles and one sack against the San Francisco 49ers in a 26-21 loss.

He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999.

After football, Browner pursued several business opportunities, eventually working in real estate and settling in Nashville, Tennessee.

Ross is survived by his wife, Shayla, and two sons.
