Hibernian included a buyout clause as part of the deal to sell Martin Boyle to Al-Faisaly.

As part of the deal, the Saudi club must inform Hibs if they intend to sell Boyle to another British team.

The financial terms of the offer received for the Australia international are expected to be disclosed to the Premiership side, who would then decide whether to match the offer or let Boyle move to another club.

The 28-year-old’s move came after a third bid from Al-Faisaly worth around £2.5million plus add-ons after bids of £500,000 were rejected in December and then £2million earlier this month.

Boyle, who was in the stands for Thursday’s Scottish Cup win over Cove Rangers, leaves behind his wife and daughter as he heads to the Middle East in a life-changing move in a financial context.

In an interview with Hibs TV, he said: “I hope in the future I can come back one day and pay them back one more time. It’s a new adventure for me. I’m definitely looking forward to it. But I hope that if I come back I still have a lot to give.

“If I’m welcomed with open arms, there’s no club in Scotland I’d rather be at. You see a lot of players leaving and coming back these days, so if there’s anything in the pipeline, it’s That’s one I definitely wouldn’t turn up your nose.”

Boyle made 265 appearances for Hibs and scored 63 goals

Hibernian CEO Ben Kensell added: “We would like to begin by thanking Martin Boyle for all he has done for Hibernian FC over the past seven years. He has created some truly special memories with us and has everything for the supporters.

“Letting Martin go was a tough decision because he’s an important player for us, but also when a player is presented with a life-changing option that makes it clear that it’s an option they would like to take, then we have to listen.

“Discussions have been ongoing for a long time with Martin, and he understood our position. We took a firm but fair approach and he behaved incredibly well during what was a difficult time for him, and we support him. thank you.

“We wish him the best for the future, and he will always be welcome at Hibernian FC.”

The Hibs have been busy in the January window, adding Ewan Henderson, Elias Melkersen, Rocky Bushiri and Harry Clarke to their squad, along with Chris Mueller, who agreed to a pre-contract last summer.

What have the Hibs lost?

When Shaun Maloney said sky sports last week Boyle had been one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership this season, it was hard to argue.

The striker had attracted interest from several clubs following his impressive performances over the past 12 or so months.

Boyle was asked about his career at Hibernian after signing a new contract at Easter Road

Why? Well, Boyle is bringing in goals and his electric pace is giving defenders problems. His departure will be felt not only by the fans but also by his teammates.

Kevin Nisbet and Christian Doidge have thrived on his serve and ability to create chances.

Not only that, the 28-year-old is versatile. He played wide or down the middle and was unlike any other player on the Hibs team.

While he was Hibernian’s go-to impact player a few years ago, this season he was seen as their talisman.

Maloney said the club would “adapt” if Boyle left. It remains to be seen how the Easter Road side will do just that.

Fans will be disappointed to see him go but no one will be able to question his performance. Boyle leaves after 265 appearances and 63 goals during seven and a half years at Hibernian.

Ousmane Dembele has made 129 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 31 goals

Ousmane Dembele has said he ‘wouldn’t give in to blackmail’ after Barcelona said the French striker had to leave in the January transfer window.

The Spanish giants’ director of football, Mateu Alemany, said on Thursday that the 24-year-old wants to leave.

Dembele is out of contract this summer and is yet to sign a new contract at Barcelona.

“From today it ends,” he said on Instagram, external link referring to the “gossip” that surrounded him in recent years.

“From today, I will answer honestly, without giving in to any blackmail.

“I forbid anyone to think that I am not committed to the sports project. I forbid anyone to attribute to me intentions that I never had.”

Dembele joined Barca from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 in a deal worth up to £135.5million but will be able to leave for nothing when his contract expires.

Barcelona manager Xavi has already warned Dembele that he must sign a new contract or leave the Spanish side.

Alemany said the club backed Xavi and agreed it was “absolutely the right approach” as lengthy contract negotiations failed to produce a deal.

“With Ousmane and his agent we started [contract] conversations around July, so it’s been six months and a bit,” Alemany said.

“We talked, we talked, we talked. Barca made different offers.

“We tried to find a way for the player to continue with us but these offers were systematically rejected by his agents.

“In this scenario, he and his agents have been informed that he must leave immediately because we want players committed to this project and therefore we hope that a transfer will take place before January 31.”

The deal to sign Dembele was, at the time, the second most expensive transfer of all time, but his Camp Nou career was hampered by injuries.

He has been linked with many clubs including Manchester United, Newcastle and Liverpool.

If this version of the house and home between Nebraska and Oklahoma had taken place in 1971 – or, heck, maybe 2011 – it’s possible Martinez and Rattler, who both had remaining eligibility and neither of them proved to be a no-no – arguably the NFL’s top draft pick, would have faced each other again in the second round.

Instead, Martinez is in Kansas State and Rattler is in South Carolina. Nebraska recruited Brennan and Slovis, but ultimately landed happily on Thompson as a veteran flagger for 2022. Oklahoma, meanwhile, benched Rattler for rookie Caleb Williams during the season this fall, only to see Rattler’s transfer, head coach Lincoln Riley bolt for USC and then Williams are also transferred.

The same day Williams reached the gate, OU’s new coaching staff fired Gabriel from UCLA, where he had just committed and was scheduled to start classes.

From USC, Slovis chose Pittsburgh over Nebraska and others, leaving Dart as heir apparent to the job until Williams entered the portal. Williams on Saturday afternoon hasn’t even announced his engagement yet, but his relationship with Riley was likely one of the factors that led Dart to enter the transfer portal last week.

Now the showdown between Nebraska and the Sooners is for Purdy, a young quarterback who likely knows he’s not going to step straight into a starting job. He visited Oklahoma with his family midweek, is at Lincoln this weekend and could be in class at either school as the second transfer quarterback by Tuesday. The Sooners are also on the hunt for Dart, who could eventually end up swapping places with Williams.

Rangers v Celtic: How Scottish football’s great rivalry was dampened by comments from Stewart Robertson https://authenticraiderssale.com/rangers-v-celtic-how-scottish-footballs-great-rivalry-was-dampened-by-comments-from-stewart-robertson/ Sat, 15 Jan 2022 08:05:32 +0000 https://authenticraiderssale.com/rangers-v-celtic-how-scottish-footballs-great-rivalry-was-dampened-by-comments-from-stewart-robertson/ Celtic and Rangers fans at Ibrox in 2017 – when big away supporters were still allowed. Celtic and Rangers fans at Ibrox in 2017 – when big away supporters were still allowed.

One even dated back to when Rangers allowed Celtic fans to be housed in one half of the main Ibrox stand enclosure. This was in the late 1980s, not so long ago as some might have thought.

Now it looks like they are barely allowed to attend the same game.

No away fans were in the first clash of this season at Ibrox when red zones due to Covid restrictions were in place and there will be no away fans in the return clash next month at Parkhead, with the game originally scheduled to be played on January 2. It is expected that only 700-800 visiting fans will be allowed on either ground amid hopes Covid restrictions will no longer be an issue later this season.

In stadiums where capacities exceed 50,000, well beyond in the case of Celtic Park, this must be considered a regret.

Rangers chief executive Stewart Robertson almost spelled the end of the days when as many as 6-7,000 away fans attended Old Firm matches. In a Business of Sport podcast for the Athletic website, he admitted the arrangement of greatly reduced ticket allocations “is not something I can see changing in the short term”.

The tweets and photographs earlier this week were actually laments for how it once was. When the sound and color of these occasions reflected their meaning. Podcast co-host Mark Chapman recalled the atmosphere “crackling through the TV”.

So much is lost by drawing the drawbridge. Any derby – any match, in fact – would be impoverished by cutting the allowance given to opposition supporters by such a large percentage.

Next month’s Edinburgh derby, which takes place the day before Celtic v Rangers, will have an entire stand in Easter Road reserved for Hearts fans. The same will apply to Dens Park for the Dundee Derby on the same evening.

Not only does it seem to work, but the presence of thousands of fans outside increases the occasion. Robertson, however, believes a “vast majority” of Rangers fans agree with the policy of reducing the Celtic allowance to such a slim number. Does he know that? He admits he’s the dark one on what’s wanted “on the other side of town.”

Such language does not inspire optimism that the cooperation required to rethink is even possible. Robertson believes the ship has now sailed because season ticket holders have already been assigned seats where fans outside once sat. “We would rather have our own fans,” is the gist of it.

It’s ironic that the conversation has shifted from Scottish football’s failure to secure a TV deal that’s even on a par with those in similarly sized countries elsewhere over away fans at Old Firm games.

Robertson has expressed dismay at the low value Scottish football is getting from Sky Sports, where the deal, poor as it is, relies on the Old Firm meeting four times a season. He mentions prominent figures such as Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard.

“Some of the personalities that we have in the game over the years, we’ve had the ability to sell them better than we have,” he complains.

But then it gets involved in shrinking the very device that does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to selling TV rights.

On the eve of another national championship appearance, Alabama coach Nick Saban was asked how recent name, image and likeness legislation has changed his handling of the Crimson Tide this season.

“Well, the name, the image and the likeness is a positive thing for the players. They have the opportunity to make money, which they have always had the opportunity to do. It gives them the opportunity. to do it using their name and image and likeness, which I don’t think is a bad thing, ”Saban told reporters.

More than a dozen Alabama soccer players signed NIL deals last summer, including Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Bryce Young, who signed a deal with the CAA for his NIL representation.

While he acknowledged how positive NIL was for the players, Saban also expressed some hesitation about his impact.

The game was over. The Cleveland Browns were running out of time. The Pittsburgh Steelers had won.

With just 51 seconds left, the Steelers led 19-14 and faced the third down, all running back Najee Harris had to do was gain two yards to end the game. He ended up winning a lot more than that, escaping for a 37-yard touchdown to provide an exclamation point for Ben Roethlisberger’s likely final game at Heinz Field.

It was actually in the Steelers’ best interests for Harris to fall as soon as he won the first down, as they only had to kneel down from there. Scoring returned the ball to the Browns with a chance to score, convert a kick to play and score again, although that obviously didn’t happen with the way Baker Mayfield was playing.

Harris’ touchdown didn’t make sense … for the Steelers. For some people watching at home, however, it was a reason to lose their mind, for both good and bad reasons.

Najee Harris has decided on so many fantastic championships

When you’re a largely possessed player like Harris playing in Monday Night Football, you’re going to have some matchups. When you are a widely possessed player who scores a touchdown in the trash in Monday Night Football during the week of most fantasy football league games, you are going to win certain leagues.

In many leagues, Harris’ touchdown provided a 9.7-point shot for anyone who started it, more than enough to change a game. It was the last series of massive games for the Steelers rookie, with 188 rushing yards and one touchdown on 28 carries plus three receptions for 18 yards.

For some, this touchdown was a thrilling victory:

And for the others, well, it’s no worse than that:

There isn’t much more to fantasy football than that.

Brentford vs Aston Villa, Sunday 2pm, live on Sky Sports – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

Aston Villa has become one of the meanest defenses in the Premier League since Steven Gerrard took over.

This provides them with a fantastic base to work with to achieve positive results. Since Gerrard’s arrival in November, Villa have won four of their seven Premier League games with all three losses to Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City. In those four wins against Brighton, Crystal Palace, Norwich and Leicester, they have averaged an expected goals-against count of 0.7 per game and have faced an average of just 8.2 shots per game. Sure, it’s a small sample size but it’s a defensive record that puts them on par with Manchester City. The first signs are very positive for the future of Gerrard and his new club.

Meanwhile, Brentford are a solid home side that don’t offer their opponents many chances, as Manchester City discovered by creating just 1.04 expected goals against the Bees – the lowest total they have ever seen. they have posted on the road this season. To have played against City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal at home this season and having the sixth best home goal expected against the exit is a serious achievement for a newly promoted side.

When you factor in both defenses, a low score case should be considered. Villa has maybe that little extra quality in the final third, so I took them to take away.

SCORE PREDICTION: 0-1

BETTING ANGLE: Aston Villa winner and under 2.5 goals (4/1 with Sky Bet)

Everton vs Brighton, Sunday 2pm – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

I can’t have Brighton in this one at 11/8 with Sky Bet, especially if Dominic Calvert-Lewin is fit to play. He can make a difference when he comes back by bringing with him a 50% win rate when playing versus 21% when he’s away.

Brighton has no one of their cruelty or power in the final third which will continue to keep them from putting on consistent winning races. They have also won only one of their last 13 Premier League games, but have drawn nine.

Brighton were remarkably impressive at Stamford Bridge midweek but one area they struggled with was their inability to defend set pieces. This is probably due to the disappearance of Lewis Dunk. In their last five games, Brighton have dispatched 5.2 shots per game on set pieces, the third highest average of any Premier League side in that span.

With him still in the treatment room, Everton should be sure to derive great joy from those areas.

My eyes were drawn to 11/10 on Michael Keane having one or more shots on goal. Everton’s center-back poses a big threat as he ventures forward and has fired a shot in 12 of his 17 appearances this season.

SCORE PREDICTION: 2-1

BETTING ANGLE: Michael Keane will have 1+ shots (10/11 with Sky Bet)

Leeds vs Burnley, Sunday 2pm – PLAY SUPER 6 HERE!

Bring your helmets. If you like your football rough, ready and full of fouls, then this is your street. The importance of this game will not be lost on both groups of players and the mood inside Elland Road is likely to ignite the tactile paper. Unlike other teams who could fall into relegation, Leeds fans seem ready to mingle with their squad. They are behind the manager and appear very united after a wave of injuries decimated their team, nothing more than Kalvin Phillips, who is expected to be out until March. A seismic blow for their hopes of climbing the standings.

Burnley will also arrive with three points in the lead. A win for them would draw Leeds straight into the mix. The match prices look about right to me, with Leeds being rightly favored at Evens and Burnley at 13/5. If you push me, I’ll play the draw and go hunting at the card market.

The reverse match at Turf Moor between these two produced seven cards and with the explosive atmosphere expected, referee Kevin Friend could have his hands full. Leeds tops the table for most yellow cards this season (50), but also shot the most opposition yellow cards in 2021 (88). Unsurprisingly, their matches this season have on average more cards than any other team. The game of producing over 50 contrarian reservation points should do the trick.

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-1

BETTING ANGLE: 50+ booking points (11/10 with Sky Bet)

Chelsea vs Liverpool, Sunday 4:30 p.m., live on Sky Sports

Chelsea v Liverpool
Picture:
Chelsea vs Liverpool, live on Sky Sports

I’m on an 11/8 away win for Liverpool with Sky Bet.

My tendency in these “monster” encounters between two teams capable of winning the title is to seek value so that the game is a low scoring tactical affair. Not this time. Even at this point in the season, the draws are of no use to the two in their pursuit of Manchester City. Three points or nothing must be the method of attack.

This game has the characteristics of a classic, involving a lot of action and penalty kicks – and based on what I’ve seen from Chelsea over the past few weeks, most of the attacks are going to be in their direction. .

Whether it’s fitness issues or just a general lack of confidence in the camp, they are miles away from their performance levels early in the season. The way Brighton cut his midfielder repeatedly on Wednesday allowed Jurgen Klopp to lick his lips, as did the lack of chances created by the Blues’ open play. Keep in mind that this is a Chelsea side who against Arsenal in the second week of the season created 18 open play opportunities in one game. Such is their current unease, they have created a total of 18 open play chances in their last three combined matches against Brighton, Aston Villa and Wolves.

Liverpool don’t have that problem. Yes they are heading to Stamford Bridge after a loss to Leicester but now is not the time to panic for them. The attacking process remains terrifyingly good, averaging just over 2.5 goals expected every 90 minutes in their last eight matches. Chelsea have kept only one clean sheet in their last eight Premier League games. It’s hard to see them improve that record against the Reds front line.

With the expected match scenario being one of high pace, with goals and draws not being good for either team, the match shots market is also worth a visit. Liverpool average 19.5 shots every 90 minutes this season and I would expect them to hit just below that number in this one as Chelsea are sending more shots to their goal than at the start of the season.

Brighton scored 18 in midweek, Leeds reached 12 and Watford 14. With Tuchel’s side unlikely to be allowed to sit by the home crowd they will fly forward and should be used as well. to ward off the shots. This makes the shooting lines with Sky Bet very appealing with 27+ (11/10), 29+ (15/8) and 31+ (3/1) worth it.

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-3

BETTING ANGLE: Liverpool win and over 28 shots in total (5/1 with Sky Bet)

INFLUENZA IN SPORT • Surprise is not a word we use a lot. But we are really surprised this morning. Surprised, so many college sporting events went as planned last night. In fact, we would probably have been surprised and there were many more.

•••••••

• The way things are done in the world these days, just getting to the start line is pretty impressive. Take the Las Vegas Bowl last night. Let’s go. With Wisconsin winning 20-13 over Arizona State. It’s a win for the Big Ten, a loss for the Pac-12 and a no-show for new Sun Devil appetizers.

That’s almost half of their starting group.

But given that neither Gonzaga’s basketball team got to play last night (and both were scheduled) nor Whitworth’s men (they lost a game due to travel issues for their opponent, Wisconsin-River Falls), so just being able to turn on ESPN and watch a little football seems like a win.

Or CBS this morning. In less than two hours (as of this writing), Washington State should face (check notes in case there are any last minute changes) Central Michigan in the Sun Bowl. We can say with some confidence that an El Paso, TX event has never been so anticipated in the Interior Northwest.

Make no mistake about it. The kick-off road was paved with broken glass – for both teams. Central Michigan was scheduled to play in Tucson, until Boise State had to retire. The WSU was supposed to play in Miami, until the Hurricanes blew that game to pieces. And the Cougars enter the field this morning without a handful of the usual starters themselves, including both offensive tackles and 67 percent of their running back body.

Again, however, just the act of playing sounds awesome. Ask UCLA. Or a handful of other schools.

Or any WCC or just about any Pac-12 basketball team this week.

This December has been cut into pieces. Will January be the same? We wouldn’t be surprised.

• The two semifinals of the college football playoffs should be played this afternoon and tonight. Perennial favorite and seed Alabama team up with No.4 Cincinnati, the first underdog to pull off the Power 5 exclusive dance. This Cotton Bowl battle begins just before 1 p.m. on ESPN. Then Georgia’s No.3 against Michigan’s No.2 of the Orange Bowl will follow shortly thereafter.

We expect both games to be played. However, we cannot predict how many players the virus will sideline. It seems likely that at least a few will be released. And that could decide who wins.

Our hearts would love to see Michigan play Cincinnati in the final, but our heads are sure this game will match both SEC schools. Damn, we’re not listening to you today. We go with our heart.

Gonzaga: Both men and women have been affected by more COVID-19 postponements – when will there be so many to become cancellations? – with Jim Allen telling us the women lost a home game on Jan.8 to Loyola Marymount and Jim Meehan sharing the news of Saturday’s game at LMU was pushed back due to GU virus issues.

WSU: Yes, the Cougars are starting in a moment. Colton Clark is in El Paso and has a bunch of stuff, including a game preview, the two-minute drill, and his pick of which team will win. • We will be back here tomorrow for several reasons. We don’t go to bed later on New Years Eve. And there is no morning SR delivered to the gates of Spokane. We want to fill that void with the Cougar game (fingers crossed) and the college football playoffs (ditto). And we want to start 2021 like we did in 2020, with a column hoping that the year will see the end of this pandemic. We didn’t get our wish a year ago. Until there …

LOS ANGELES – Kirk Herbstreit, ESPN’s chief college football analyst, is impressed with what he has seen with the Utah football team during the 2021 season.

Kirk Herbstreit will call the 108th Rose Bowl Game on Saturday January 1, 2022 between Utah and Ohio State.

He spoke to the media on a Zoom call Monday to preview the game. KSL Sports has asked the former Buckeyes quarterback about the Utah season.

“I was impressed with their season,” said Herbstreit. “Losing a player, then losing another player who honors and wears the jersey and you know, the families involved there and the team going back to the funeral, and then starting year 1-2, then making a change to quarterback- back to Cam (Ascension). Then fight through it all and stay really, incredibly unified through it all. They’ve been one of the great stories of the year in college football.

The Utes started season 1-2 after defeating Weber State in Game 1 of the season before dropping back-to-back games to BYU and San Diego State. They made a shift change from Charlie Brewer to Cam Rising.

With Rising under center, Utah finished the season 9-1 and won its first Pac-12 championship in program history.

Utah will face Ohio State at the Rose Bowl Saturday at 3 p.m. MT on ESPN.

Trevor Allen is a Utah Utes insider for KSLSports.com, co-host of the Faith, Family and Football podcast with Clark Phillips III and host of the Crimson Corner podcast. Follow him on Twitter: @TrevorASports.
