Financial details emerge regarding major West Brom move

West Bromwich Albion announced the signing of Daryl Dike to a four-and-a-half-year contract on New Years Day.

The 21-year-old gained plenty of admirers in the second half of last season with Barnsley under Valerian Ismael.

The Frenchman is hoping Dike can have a similar impact to The Hawthorns and send the Baggies back to automatic promotion.

Jordan Hugill and Kenneth Zohore haven’t been good enough in recent months and so there is certainly a vacancy as the club’s number nine.

Quiz: Can you name which club West Brom recruited these 20 forwards?

Alex Mowatt was the most prominent summer signing following West Brom’s relegation from the Premier League, which was a small undertaking compared to the strengthening Fulham was able to make, but the Baggies have shown serious ambition to secure Dike.

The transfer fee was not published on the club’s website, but the author of the MLS Tim bogert revealed on Twitter that the Baggies had spent nearly $ 10 million to acquire the services of the U.S. international.

He wrote: “MLS Deals Already This Winter: Daryl Dike from Orlando City to West Brom for $ 9.5 Million + 20% Sale.”

In the post-pandemic championship, this kind of single player spending is not very common, but it shows from the top of the West Brom club that they are supporting Ismael and the team to push for promotion this quarter.

The verdict

The addition of Dike, this early in the transfer window, is a huge statement of intent from West Brom. Bournemouth and Fulham have stuttered for the past month or so and the Baggies have returned to the automatic promotion conversation as a result.

Callum Robinson and Karlan Grant were irresistible in the Flashes and in combination with a fit and burning Daryl Dike they will be very difficult to deal with.

Defensively, there were no issues as the Baggies’ rearguard action laid the groundwork for their positive season.

Albion seemed destined to be relegated for most of the 2020/21 campaign, which caused a hangover of frustration leading to this one.

Dike’s arrival shows that West Brom is not to be taken lightly and is a club with strong aspirations to return to the Premier League as soon as possible.
