Ole Miss football gets a QB crystal ball as the 2023 carousel spins

Ole Miss football captured a crystal ball showing for a quarterback rookie in 2023, but not the one Rebel fans probably wanted.

Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss football team have been involved with a number of top quarterback rookies in the Class of 2023, but things have gone in the wrong direction with some of the Rebels’ top targets.

Ole Miss was hoping he could land Arch Manning. After all, her grandfather played Ole Miss, as did her uncle (Eli).

But the rebels fell in this recruitment. They also lobbied hard to Jaden Rashada and Christophe Vizzinatwo other highly touted QBs from the Class of 2023.

Unfortunately for Ole Miss football, Vizzina now tends to Clemson and is expected to make an announcement on Tuesday. The Alabama prospect is ranked just outside the top 50. He was one of the best consolation prizes for Ole Miss outside of Arch and another is Rashada.

Still, California’s five-star quarterback Rashada was once considered a possible Ole Miss football commitment before Oregon and Miami gained traction of late.

The Rebels are still ahead according to the On3.com prediction machine, but recent news with rookie quarterback Marcel Reed should change that thinking.

Ole Miss football should land Marcel Reed

Marcel Reed isn’t a four- or five-star quarterback, at least according to the 247 Sports Composite Ranking, but he’s a top 400 prospect, and 247 ranks him as a four-star in its own ranking.

Reed is out of Nashville and is 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds. He’s also a dual-threat option that suits Lane Kiffin and the offense he leads well. That’s why Rashada also seemed like an ideal option.

Reed is raw though. In the last three seasons in high school, he had 23 touchdown points. Passing-wise, he’s thrown for 35 touchdowns to 18 interceptions — a high number for high school football, so he’ll need time to develop.

Still, Ole Miss football seems to be beating other SEC programs such as Arkansas and Vanderbilt for Reed and it’s better to land a talented QB with an upside than none at all.

There’s only one crystal ball projection for Reed to land with the rebels, but that was from Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports, which usually means others have to follow, so stay tuned .
