These four Texas A&M footballers are preseason All-American APs
The Texas A&M football team is gearing up for what could easily be the best season in school history. After finishing with their best ranking (4th) in nearly a century, Jimbo Fisher will look to strengthen his roster and fight for a place in the college football playoffs, where Aggie fans will say their team should have. be last year.
To get there, A&M needs a cohesive team, much like the 2020-21 roster. This time around they have more experience in a location that can help make that happen, starting with the offensive side of the ball.
Fortunately for the Aggies, the national media has already recognized the College Station team as having more than a handful of talent, giving four Aggies Preseason AP All-American Honors.
Texas A&M football’s pre-season AP All-Americans should come as no surprise
Fortunately and unfortunately, the world of college football is filled with offseason media giving away All-American lists far too early, All-SEC lists and every other recognition imaginable. As a result, we’ve seen these four top players in the conference a few times already.
The first Aggie I’m going to talk about who was named to the AP All-American squad was Kenyon Green, A&M’s only returning offensive lineman. Green came close to a handful of accolades last season, including becoming a finalist for the Joe Moore Award. If the Aggies’ offensive line is good in 2021-22, it will start with Green, who was named to the first team.
But he won’t be quite alone.
Next to Green, Texas A&M will have another pre-season All-American AP in Jalen Wydermyer, who has already established himself as one of the best tight ends in Aggie history. The Aggie TE has already racked up over 950 yards and 12 touchdowns to tie. Wydermyer was named to the second team.
Another offensive player received preseason All-American honors by the Associated Press. That player was Isaiah Spiller.
Spiller might not be the flashiest running back, but he’s arguably the most exciting returning player on this A&M football team. The third-year running back is set to break the 2,000-yard rushing mark in his career in Game 1 of the season, as he looks to cross the 1,000-yard mark in a single season for the second time in his career. With a new quarterback ready to start for the Aggies, Spiller will be carrying a heavy load on his back.
The Texas A&M football team had only one defensive player listed on the AP All-American preseason team.
If you’ve just woken up from a coma that ended at the end of the 2020-21 college football season, you’ll be surprised to see that only one defensive player from Texas A&M Football has been listed as an All-. American pre-season. After all, the Aggies offense was never his calling card under Jimbo Fisher. Instead, the defense has been more dominant.
Yet the only player to win these honors for the 2021 season was DeMarvin Leal, which is actually relatively unproven. Leal has been effective in the field, recording 12.5 loss tackles and 4.5 sacks over his career. An interception, forced fumble and fumble recovery are the icing on the cake.
With the departure of Bobby Brown III for the NFL, it will be Leal’s turn to resume this defensive line. And taking over is exactly what it should be doing. With all the physical traits and a handful of intangibles to go with them, Texas A&M should see a great season from this young star.
