Transfer news – Marc Guehi swaps Chelsea for Crystal Palace, relishing his collaboration with Patrick Vieira

Crystal Palace has concluded the signing of Marc Guehi from Chelsea.

The 21-year-old defender has worked his way up the Chelsea Academy ranks but has had no real impact on Stamford Bridge’s first team.

He made two appearances for the Blues but drew attention during a few loan spells at Swansea.

Palace exploded when it was clear the Ivory Coast-born center-back had no future at Chelsea, and he signed a five-year contract with the Eagles.

“I am very excited”, Guehi Told Official site of the Palace. “It’s a great opportunity for me to come to such a great club in the Premier League. I’m really excited to go.

“[The club is taking] a really exciting direction with the new gaffer (Patrick Vieira) arriving.

“A lot of good young players are here and obviously such a stable club with the best players really won me over and made me want to come.”

Guehi is looking forward to learning from France and Arsenal legend Vieira at Selhurst Park, having replaced Roy Hodgson at the helm this summer.

“The player he was, the way he behaves and even recently as a manager he has a very good track record,” said Guehi. “When he was in Nice he did a really good job there and I’m really excited to be working with him.”
